Agile and Traditional Project Management

Introduction

Project management entails a complex process of ensuring the objectives of the given project are met within the set timelines, with complete conformity of the agreed terms, and within the initial approved financial plan. The project managers have a choice to apply Agile or Traditional project running procedures. The choice concerning both techniques gets more complex, especially where the project is large, application of technology, and strict timelines.

Agile PM vs. Traditional PM

Traditional project management is a general exercise that embraces a combination of advanced systems applied for scheduling, approximating, and regulating actions. Traditional project management is mostly applied to projects where actions are accomplished in a sequence with minimal expected changes (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). On the other hand, agile project method breaks down assignments into lesser sections that are accomplished in work periods running from the strategy stage to analysis and quality assurance (QA). Notably, the sessions are known as sprints, the word for iteration applied in one precise and common agile improvement technique known as Scrum (Eskerod & Larsen, 2018). The Agile PM is appropriate for large projects whereby there are many uncertainties, and constant change or tactics is necessary. Remarkably, large projects consist of several risks, uncertainties, and complex scope and use of technology. As such, traditional project management techniques may not deliver the desired results.

Conclusion

The traditional project management methods are easier to implement since they only involve introducing, scheduling, implementing, monitoring, and concluding. However, for complex and unpredictable large scale projects, Agile PM is the most appropriate. The Agile PM is in particular, complex requiring high levels of training and experience but suitable for large projects. The iteration enables the managers to device effective methods of coping with the change of the initial plans with minimal wastage of resources such as time and money.

Hello XXXXX,

Thank you for sharing your insights! How is the rolling-wave planning and scheduling project methodology related to the Agile project management?

Professor XXXXX,

The following is the student question:

Hello Class,

In recent years, agile has taken the globe of project management (Links to an external site.) and code development by storm. everybody appears to be talking regarding this project management methodology (Singh, 2019). Personally, I had never heard of Agile management. I work in construction, so everything is generally the same every time which is considered traditional project management.

Traditional Project Management (waterfall) approach is linear where all the phases of a process occur in sequence. Its concept depends on predictable tools and predictable experience. Each and every project follows the same life cycle which includes the stages such as feasibility, plan, design, build, test, production, support. The entire project is planned upfront without any scope for changing requirements. This approach assumes that time and cost are variables and requirements are fixed. This is the reason why traditional project management faces budget and timeline issues.

When a traditional system focuses on upfront planning where factors like cost, scope, and time are given importance, Agile project management is better suited to volatile and innovative projects, such as software development, where there are many risks, where the scope of the project is likely to change, and where an iterative methodology is needed so that risks are mitigated and opportunities fully exploited. Any projects associated with a high level of uncertainty (such as research and development, software development), or in highly volatile industries (such as IT or oil and gas industry), can benefit from an agile approach.

Both Traditional and Agile Project Management have their merits and demerits. It depends on the nature of the product and the circumstances around it which determine the type of method to be used (Pawar, 2018).

Assignment:

1. First, arrange to interview a speech and language pathologist (SLP) regarding his/her role within the

public school program. Identify the SLP and the school or schools he/she is assigned to, and describe

his/her general duties and responsibilities. (2 points)

2. Secondly, ask the SLP the following questions and any additional questions that you may want to add.

Generated: 8/3/2019 Page 12 of 19

When the SLP gives a brief answer to your question, ask a follow-up question. Ask the questions exactly

as they are outlined in the syllabus, and record his/her answers at the end of each question either verbatim

or as a summary.

Questions: (One point each)

a. What kind of education and training did you need to become a speech and language

pathologist?

b. How are students assigned to you?

c. What type of speech and language therapy do you provide?

d. How do you know when a student is no longer in need of your services?

e. How do you schedule your sessions with students?

f. Do you work with limited English proficient children? How do you know that these

children have a speech or language disability instead of simply having a language difference?

g. What are some of the joys and challenges in your position as a speech and language

pathologist?

h. If you can change one thing about your job, what would that be?

i. If you had to train future speech and language pathologists, what would you include in your

training program that is not already there?

j. Would you recommend this job to those who are thinking of joining the field? Justify your

answer.

3. Third, attend a therapy session that the speech and language pathologist conducts with a student or a

group of students at the school, and report on the activities that take place during this session. At the end of

your report, indicate how valuable this experience was for you. You do not need to reveal the names of the

students you will encounter during this field experience. Refer to them by their initials, but give some

general details about them without revealing any personal or sensitive information about them. (8 poin

I will put the paper and the questions on the file
all you have to do is answering the questions

Directions: Making concepts personally relevant to an individual helps to learn them. Below are several concepts from your reading. Provide a psychological definition of the term and connect it to personal example in your life. Each concept should be a minimum of 50 words with citations to support your examples. List all references at the end of the list in APA style. You may use your textbook as a resource; however, do not use the specific examples in the textbook!

Example:

Sensation – I like listening to my music before going to sleep, but if my parents hear my music after 10 pm, I get in trouble. If my music is below their absolute threshold, then I won’t get in trouble, because they won’t hear it. It is really hard to keep it below their absolute thresholds because it seems that even the faintest amount of sound coming from my room is detectable. In this example, the absolute threshold is the lowest amount of volume that they can detect up to 50% of the time (Grison, Heatherton, & Gazzaniga, 2017).

  • Absolute Threshold
  • Difference Threshold
  • Sensory Adaptation
  • Dark/Light Adaptation
  • The Gate-Control Theory of Pain
  • Perception
  • Choose One of These – Closure, Proximity, Similarity, or Simplicity
  • Top Down Processing or Bottom Up Processing
  • Depth Perception
  • Perceptual Constancy

The purpose of this activity is to give you a chance to familiarize yourself with Twitter and the international social media presence of crime prevention topics. For this activity, you will visit Twitter (Links to an external site.) and click on the little magnifying glass on the top of the screen to reveal the search box to search Twitter. Then do the following:

  • In the search box, type the words crime prevention, and click “Enter” on your keyboard to initiate a Twitter search.
  • Scroll down the page and review some of the tweets that mention the term crime prevention. Choose two tweets that interest you that relate to a crime prevention program, law enforcement approach to crime prevention, research on crime prevention, etc. Please choose different tweets than those your classmates have chosen. Therefore, you may want to complete this activity early in the week to avoid duplicating your classmates’ chosen tweets.
  • Share the links to the tweets in the discussion board. See below for further instructions on what to include in your discussion.
  • If you do not have a Twitter account, simply click on the tweet and copy and paste the URL for the tweet. Share the link on the discussion board. See below for further instructions on what to include in your discussion.
  • In addition to the links to the two tweets you chose, please address the following in your discussion:
    • Overall, what did you observe in reviewing the tweets from the Twitter search term “crime prevention?” For example, which agencies were tweeting about crime prevention? Were they primarily in the United States or abroad? Based on your review of the recent tweets (in the past six months), do you think that the United States seems to be focused on promoting crime prevention?
    • What specific topics in crime prevention did you find on Twitter? Were they regarding crime prevention research, theory, and/or practice?
    • If you were to tweet to your U.S. senators about the topic of crime prevention, what would you say? (Remember that you can use only 140 characters or less on Twitter so be clever in your “tweet” to your senators).

Your initial post must be a minimum of 300 words in length. Support your initial post with examples from your required reading material and/or other sources. Please provide both in-text citations according to APA style and APA-style references at the end of your initial post.

The practice of health care providers at all levels brings you into contact with people from a variety of faiths. This calls for knowledge and understanding of a diversity of faith expressions; for the purpose of this course, the focus will be on the Christian worldview.

Based on “Case Study: End of Life Decisions,” the Christian worldview, and the worldview questions presented in the required topic study materials you will complete an ethical analysis of George’s situation and his decision from the perspective of the Christian worldview.

Provide a 1,500-2,000-word ethical analysis while answering the following questions:

  1. How would George interpret his suffering in light of the Christian narrative, with an emphasis on the fallenness of the world?
  2. How would George interpret his suffering in light of the Christian narrative, with an emphasis on the hope of resurrection?
  3. As George contemplates life with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), how would the Christian worldview inform his view about the value of his life as a person?
  4. What sorts of values and considerations would the Christian worldview focus on in deliberating about whether or not George should opt for euthanasia?
  5. Given the above, what options would be morally justified in the Christian worldview for George and why?
  6. Based on your worldview, what decision would you make if you were in George’s situation?

Remember to support your responses with the topic study materials.

Section A

  • focusing on being able to identify the successful elements of adult learning experiences. Also consider your own learning experiences as an adult and what elements may have made those experiences successful or unsuccessful.

Post a description of an adult learning experience that you have had personally or that you have viewed that you see as successful. Be sure to include details like content area, learning environment (online, brick and mortar, work setting, etc.), and any other pertinent information about the experience. Discuss what you believe made that experience successful and relate those elements back to the core principles of adult learning presented in The Adult Learner in Figure 1.1.

Section B

Taking the time to reflect on your own learning styles and to identify how they may have evolved since you were a child can help you become a better educator of other adults. You will find the theme of assessing your own learning styles and previous learning experiences throughout this course. As you gain understanding of the theories behind adult learning, you may also begin to contextualize the experiences you have had.

To prepare:

  • Consider your own learning as an adult.
  • Take the Personal Adult Learning Style Inventory found in Chapter 17 of the Knowles, Holton, and Swanson (2015) text to explore the extent to which your teaching/learning styles are pedagogically or andragogically oriented.

In 2–3 pages, address the following:

  • Score and report your results from the inventory.
  • How consistent are the results with what you thought they might be? Explain the extent to which your teaching and learning may be pedagogically/andragogically oriented.
  • How do you believe your style has evolved since you were a child? Support your answer with elements of the andragogical theory.
