“The Role of Databases and Database Management Systems (DBMS) in the Context of Enterprise Systems” Please respond to the following:
Database servers store and retrieve large volumes of structured data on high speed disk arrays. The server software can be purchased off the shelf from companies like Oracle or Microsoft; then, software developers use the database services to hold the data collected by their programs. Data gets held in structures known as tables, with each table holding a set of related items. One table may hold a list of customers, listing their names, addresses, credit ratings, and other data. A second table may hold customer sales, listing each purchase by customer. The database stores all this data in a way that makes it fast and easy to retrieve related items. Research the role of databases and database management systems.
Discuss the role of databases and database management systems in the context of enterprise systems. Also include a discussion on the components of the DBMS .
PLEASE RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT & A DETAILED WHY: There are several roles of Database Management systems (DBMS) as it plays a very important part of the Database architecture. One role is the Data Management system is needed for data to be accessed within the enterprise. This is pertinent to the functional performance of the company. Another role of the DBMS is that it maintains strong relationships between data sets. This is key to better and faster queries. The DBMS is also crucial to the upgrading and updating fo the database. It also allows managers to search data quicker and easier.
DBMS are comprised of many components that seamlessly work together. Some of those components are Software, Hardware, Data, Procedures, DB Access language, Query Processor, Run time DB manager, Data manager, data dictionary and database engine. All of these components make up the DBMS and collectively provide better more user friendly access to a Database.
