I will offer Tips and Hints on each of our weekly DB’s (we typically have one DB with two parts per week). I will focus on providing guidance on our DB’s. My Tips and Hints are entirely optional, and you can choose to follow my advice or not – the quality of your response(s) is up to you and you are responsible for all of your research, interpretation, and APA formatting (citation and referencing). Dr. Vic: Please make sure you fully discuss our DBs do not just post two or three or even four sentences, please make sure you have reached a solid graduate level discussion. Statement of Work (SOW)

a)Examine the components of a SOW for the purpose of open competition without restrictive provisions. Select a field that you are interested in and determine the information that would be included in a SOW for a contract in that field.

(Dr. Vic’s Tips: this question follows information from Ch. 5 of our Compton textbook very closely. You will want to read the entirety of Ch. 5 and pay particular attention to p.p. 45-47, the section entitled “Format of a SOW and Common Elements”. Then after you have discussed these common elements, address the second portion of the question and discuss the field you are interested in and the contents of SOW for that field.

The statement of work should include what the objectives of the project are, the scope of the project, the schedule, the price of the materials or service, key assumptions, and acceptance (Barry, 2010). This is a document written by the federal government that outlines exactly what it is a vendor is required to do. The SOW (Statement of Work) is used to evaluate quotes that are submitted by different vendors. Each vendor is evaluated fairly and the award/contract should always be given to the bidder who meets all qualifications which includes a fair and reasonable price.

Besides my regular job I also attend and have planned a few conferences where we deal directly with the hotel to set up events for the day or the weekend. Within the statement of work things such as the requirements for the wait staff, room size, table and chair setup along with technology equipment. How to proceed with the events for the day, how much coffee and water to serve, what time to put out the food. Under documentation would be the breakdown of pricing for each thing. The background section of the SOW would include the reasons behind the conference which fully detail what we do and all requirements we have and what we expect from the venue.

I believe each of the resources have value but the one thing most businesses have a hard time with is actually finding the business. By having access to the link to find contract opportunities a small or large business has access to many different contract opportunities. Links such as FedBizOpps.com gives new vendors a place to go to view not only opportunities from HHS but other agencies as well. It shows each agency and how many notices they have out there. This website along with the other resources under find contract opportunities not only gives knowledge but puts a vendor in the position to be able to search and find contracting opportunities.
