For this assignment, write a paper to outline the special challenges presented by open admissions and the diverse nature of the student population within community colleges. Include the following in your paper:

  • Take a stance regarding open admissions policies in community colleges. Should such policies be the norm?
  • Should these policies be considered for all academic programs? Support your position with relevant professional literature in the field.
  • Discuss the need to develop services that can insure that students socialize within the college and prepare themselves to develop and use the skills required for them to transition to meet the challenges they will face in the workforce.
  • Relate your findings and recommendations to current theories of higher education leadership and student services as related to the community college setting.
