Part One: Country Comparison Presentation – (Chart Format or PowerPoint)

Select one of the so-called “bad” countries listed below and compare the constitutional and governmental systemto that of the United States Constitution and U.S. Governmental System & Structure. Provide highlights of the economic, historic, political, and social context of the country.

The purpose of this exercise is to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate how well they understand the readings, supplemental information, and materials. It also permits the students to assess their ability to apply the information. Moreover, it provides the student with an opportunity to assess their research skills and expose students generally to different governments, with which students will need to be familiar in the Globalized economy, in which they will be operating and working.

The objective: Choose one of the Think Tanks listed below. Create a chart in PowerPoint or hard Copy with bullet points. It must include the Mission Statement and the Funding Source of the selected Think Tank.

Part Four: Oral Presentation – What is a policy think tank?

The purpose of this exercise is to provide the student with an opportunity to determine the degree of influence private and public policy organizations have on government creation of laws, policy, rules, etc., and in turn influence the American public and the student’s individual decisions in their roles as US citizens, residents, consumers, and taxpayers.

Choose one media outlet listed below. Prepare a chart that identifies any other business interest/Subsidiary of the media sources; including any other business entities that they fund and may have a controlling interest, or what other businesses are owned by the same company?

Creating laws, rules, and regulations; 2.) Implementing the laws, rules, and regulations; and 3.) Interpreting the law, rules, and regulations.

Part Five: Product & Regulating Agency – * Identify a product and determine which governmental agency (federal, state, or government administrative agency) is in charge of the safety of the product.  * Also, identify any outside interest (Lobby Group or Industry) that may be using their political power or influence to undermine that protection for the public.  * Additionally, describe how that governmental agency is involved in the following:

·  Creates, laws, executive orders, policy, rules, resolutions, ordinances

·  Implements: laws, policy, rules, resolutions, ordinances

·  Interprets: laws, policy, rules, resolutions, ordinances

The purpose of this exercise is to provide the student with a final opportunity in this course to practice public speaking. It also provides the student with the opportunity to demonstrate that they understand the reading materials; in addition to providing students with the opportunity to assess their ability to apply the information.

HINT:  Part Six – 1 Incident 3 Stories/Narratives (PowerPoint)

Obtain a story, article, report, or news video of an Incident; and compare and contrast how the one incident is reported by three (3) different news/reporting sources  (2 domestic & 1 international source corporate, public, independent, alternative, etc. ) Sources are (newspaper, periodical, magazine Court Trial Transcripts, Television News Program, C-Span Book TV, etc.  Consider the following in determining the importance of the story; 1) What were the similaritiesin the stories from the different reporting sources; 2) What are the differences in how the story was reported; 3.) How much time or space was dedicated to the story;  4) Was it the first or last storyreported (In the broadcast, or the Newspaper or Magazine), and 5) Was the story featured on the front page or the back page?

Students are required to identify and create a work (Artwork Poster or Figure(s)) that demonstrates the student’s understanding of and can describes: Purpose, Function, and Role of all seven (7) components of the American Government, System and Structure.

NOTE: ALL COURSE ASSIGNMENTS and ASSESSMENTS ARE TO BE SAVED IN A COURSE BINDER.  

Said Binder aka POL104 Course Performance Review and Resource Binder, will be first reviewed for accuracy and completion by the Tutor. 

The student should plan their personal schedules and prepare their one on one meetings with Dr. Carter.  The purpose of the meeting is to review the student’s 2020 Fall Course Performance (Including but not limited to attendance, course performance, midterm assessment activities and final assessment activities) to receive their final grade. There will be no incomplete grades issued.

Extra Credit: This is offered to enhance the student’s final grade. It will not replace any section of the midterm or final grade.
