When thinking of institutional changes to make, only a few come to mind. One thing that really keeps policy making stalled, is the wait and see approach that many in congress take. While the president sometimes utilizes this technique, they are limited, so they can only wait so long. If members of congress had a limit for how many times they could be reelected, they’d be force to do something to keep themselves politically relevant. Leaving their mark and actually getting things done would be a priority. Another interesting theory, would be a constitutional amendment that enforces congress to implement a certain amount of policies a year might work. There could be other regulations that require the president and congress to meet more than they do to build relations. Simply waiting for political unity is not enough, seeing as many of these issues can’t wait to be dealt with.************************ Student Response #2 ***************************The relationship between president and congress is a delicate one. As we have all seen the success of a presidency typically depends on how cooperative the sitting congress is. With the Obama administration, congress was won by the republicans and they made every effort to avoid having a smooth working relations with the president. With the most recent midterms I believe that we are in store for the democrats to do what they can to avoid having President Trump further his agenda any more. I do think that some of the issues arising between the president and congress could possibly be remedied with term limits on all of congress. Although, given the current political climate I doubt it would do much in the way of bi-partisanship as that has now become a thing of the past. It is a sad state that both parties have become so polarized in their own core values they are incapable of working together for the betterment of the country and that of their constituents.
