Protecting Data Transfer in Network Environment Information Review For my project proposal, I have chosen to research protection of data transfer in a network environment. I would also be researching the way file transfer protocols make it easier for secure data transfer in network environment. Motivation behind choosing this research topic In the context of a network, it should be definite that sensitive data would always be private. It is definitely much easier to implement security in a network, rather than deal with loss of data. In addition to protecting sensitive information, it is vital to protect network operations from damage, whether done purposely or accidently. Security is not taking very seriously, even in networking environments, where a great deal of sensitive and important business data is transferred. Unauthorized access, theft, unintentional or intentional damage, and electronic tampering, are four main forms of security threats (Ksi n.d.). This makes it extremely important to implement a secure model that would assist in protecting data transfer in a network environment. What method we will be using Communication of data across networks is indeed unsecure, but, fortunately, there exist several methods to overcome security flaws to a great extent. Encryption of data is one of the best methods to prevent data from being tampered with, on its way to the destination. Encryption refers to the conversion of data into cipher text, which can’t be understood by those who are not authorized. Decryption refers to converting the cipher text into its original form, to make it comprehendible (Techtarget n.d). Encryption is considered the most effective means to increasing security of data. We would be researching about the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), as it offers a very high level of security.
