Assignment # 2 – Processing XML with PHP Due Date: November 29nd, 2014, 6:00 PM, Objectives Learn how to process XML using PHP and use Google’s Maps service to consume XML map/route data. Figure 1 Description Create a PHP script that consumes map data from Google’s map web service. Information about Google’s map API and web service can be found at: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/directions/https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/directions/#XML Requirements Looking at figure 1, you need to create the following: An HTML5 web page with your embedded PHP script(s) An HTML5 web form that validates (i.e., use required to ensure that data is sent) Accept a source address as well as a destination address (e.g., 3700 Willingdon Ave, Burnaby BC) Display both the source and destination address and ensure that title case is used to display both Call up the Google maps API and pass both the source address and the destination address and accept the resulting map data as XML Take the resulting map data as XML and: Print out the total number of minutes that the trip will take Print out as an ordered list, the instructions of how to go from the source address to the destination address (again, see figure 1) In both the source address and destination address replace spaces with a ‘+’ character (Google maps requires this) Hints XPath is your friend Submission You will work individually for this assignment. Your submission will be one zip file which contains your PHP files with the extension being “.php”. The naming convention will be lastname-firstname-assign4.xml (e.g. Ferguson-Arron-assign2.xml) and submitted to D2L. Marks The assignment is worth 10 marks in total.
