This practical application produces a simple Web page. The essence of the work is that you need to manage the scope and keep it simple. The chronological work order provides you with a specific track for developing the prototype.

To prepare for this Application, read the following section from the course text, Universal Principles of Design:

• “Prototyping”

In addition, read the following chapter from the course text, Handbook of Usability Testing: How to Plan, Design, and Conduct Effective Tests:

• Chapter 1, “What Makes Something Usable?”

Read the following chapter from the course text, Human Computer Interaction: Developing Effective Organizational Information Systems:

• Chapter 2, “Organizational and Business Context”

You are a Web designer and you have been asked to design a prototype outline for a potential client interested in engaging your organization for developing touch screen facilities. You have to present the prototype to an executive officer of the client company that wants to market health foods and install touch screen facilities in its stores. You have 5 days to prepare your presentation, and you need to use the storyboard methodology. The client is expecting to see your report that should include the following information:

• Pencil and paper prototype of the generic front page using the template provided. It should include details of the following:
• • Layout
  • Generic use of color
  • Font face and font size
  • Hyperlink to a specific page contained within the home page and listed as part of the bottom ribbon
  • Hyperlink between the second page and other site pages—Help, Site Map, About Us, and AccessibilityImage sources

  HTML Web home page that uses links to two other pages—these pages are nonfunctional at this time:

• • The home page should replicate the storyboard instructions.
  • One of the pages need not contain any information except a heading and relevant hierarchical hyperlinks.
  • Any “Page under construction” page must have a link to the front page and the facility to close the page.

Note: Submit a zip file of your HTML work.

• A report of your testing of the HTML Web home page based on the five main principles of good design. This is not the complete evaluation, but broad evaluation of the prototype. Your test report should cover:
• • Layout
  • Hierarchical navigation to two pages other than the home page
  • Five principles of good design considerations, such as consistence, flexibility, naturalness, nonredundancy, and supportiveness
  • Accessibility consideration

Chronological work order:

1. Plan what you need to do.
2. Replicate your plan in Microsoft Word using the “Contents” facility.
3. For the pencil and paper prototype, create your prototype as per the required specification.
4. For the HTML Web front page, follow the specification to create your front page.
   1. Additional page: Create another page that satisfies the specification.
   2. Page under construction: Create one “Page under construction” as required in the specification.
   3. Submit your HTML work as a zip file in an e-mail.
5. Report testing as required by the specification.

Write a 2- to 3-page report detailing the analysis. Your report should conform to the APA style.
