To graph each proxy and plate velocity pair in Excel:
In Windows: (Excel for Office 365)
1) With the mouse, select (left click) all the cells fro B1 (Plate Velocity) through E13 (0% for the Arabian Plate slab-pull proxy).
2) Under the Insert tab select for a Scatter plot with only markers (non-connected points)
3) Right click any of the proxy data points on the chart that is generated; Select Add Trendline; Under Trendline Options select Display R-squared value on chart. Follow the same procedure for each of the other poxies. You may have to resize the chart or move the text boxes so you can discern which R-squared goes with which line.
4) Save the file and upload it to the HW 02 Assignment on the course Canvas Site
On a Mac: (Excel 2016)
1) Select (click and hold with a standard mouse) all the cells fro B1 (Plate Velocity) through E13 (0% for the Arabian Plate slab-pull proxy).
2) Under the Insert tab select for a Scatter plot. Mkesure the points are unconnected. Under the Chart Design tab select the Add Chart Element dropdown and select Axis Titles. Add labels ‘plate velocity (mm/yr)’ for the X axis and ‘% plate area or boundary” for the Y axis.
3) On the chart, click on one of the proxy data points; Under the Chart Design tab select the Add Chart Element dropdown and select Trendline and click on More Trendline Options; Make sure Linear is selected and below select Display R-squared value on chart; Follow the same procedure for each of the other poxies. You may have to resize the chart or move the text boxes so you can discern which R-squared goes with which line.
4) Save the file and upload it to the HW 02 Assignment on the course Canvas Site
