1)Week one was very interesting learning about concepts like metacogniton and critical thinking. We had a chance to say what we thought of critical thinking before learning about it. I learned to think critically you need to “analyze, evaluate, and improve your thinking”. The text talked about ways to be a critical thinker by asking questions and thinking “open mindedly” and other ways. We also learned about the different levels of thinking and got to rate our own thinking. The assignments last week helped us realize that critical thinking is very important and it is a good thing to think differently and deeply and to always grow and learn. My idea of critical thinking was similar to what it actually is but these assignments helped me get a better understanding of it and makes me want to learn more.
2)Week one gave me a better understanding of what critical thinking is, and how to critical think. Analyze, evaluate and improve thinking is key to thinking critically. In week ones text, it also talked about the first four stages of development. Reading through this section of the text it helped me figure out what level I’m at and what kind of thinker I am. This is something I found to be very interesting because I never thought, “what level of thinking am I at?” The assignment forced me to examine each aspect of my life, my personal, professional and student life. After doing this assignment I realized that I pretty much think the same in all categories, expect in my professional life I placed myself in a higher stage.
3)This chapter talks about media bias and propaganda, which is a topic that has become extremely relevant in recent months. What is propaganda? What is “fake news”? How might we use critical thinking to reject propaganda and discern “real” news from “fake” news? Why is it important to do this?
4)Propaganda is bias and misleading information that is used to promote or publicize a specific point of view or political cause. Fake news is misleading information that causes damaged on a person’s reputation. It usually information that manipulates someone or something. There are ways to use critical thinking to reject propaganda and detect real news from fake news. Becoming an independent thinker, analyzing and evaluating each story we hear can help detect real news from fake news. I think it’s important do to this so that we don’t get caught up in the fake news we hear and continue to spread it around.

- How can you determine if information is credible? How can this be applied in your life?
6)There are many ways to determine if information is credible. The video gives a list of credibility criteria. They are, does the author have a motive behind their report? Is the report fair and unbiased information? Is there vested interest that the author or organization has something to gain. I also think you can determine credible information also by fact checking, seeing if the information is peer reviewed and checking to see if the author has academic background. It’s important to check the currency as well because you don’t want to use old information because it could have changed overtime. When writing a report for school or work you want to make sure that your taking reliable and credible information. Taking bad information doesn’t make your work stand out.
