Read the play The Importance of Being Ernest and respond to the following discussion question, utilizing the theatre 1000 vocabulary terms from textbook that are listed in the discussion question.

Discussion Question:

In this, our first discussion on a play we’ve read this term, I want you to focus on the definitions of dramatic elements that you’ve just learned. Use that vocabulary to come up with examples of the elements (givens, actions, objectives, obstacles, dramatic conflict, etc) in the play itself. This is the best way to start to understand a script, on its own terms. I hope that this discussion serves as a model for the play analysis assignments you’ll do later, on comparing and contrasting the plays we’re going to read throughout the class.

You are tasked to improve IT system for the Hospital. The Hospital information system has been in use to furthering the Best Memorial Hospital Network’s efforts for a more effective, competitive and sustainability. The information system is the comprehensive, integrated information system designed to manage all the aspects of a Hospital’s operation, such as administrative, financial, and legal issues and the corresponding processing of services.

We may not get to see each other in a classroom, but we are still a community of learners, and it is important for us to get to know each other. Below are some questions to get us started. I tried to incorporate a series of serious and fun questions. If there is anything you want to tell us about yourself that is not covered by the questions, please feel free. Just remember to follow our Netiquette rules!

• Respond to at least two of your classmates by Friday, 11:59 p.m. In your post please answer the following questions:

1. What is your major? Future career goal?
2. What is your favorite novel/short story/poem/play? What is the last thing you read (even if it was Cosmo or Sports Illustrated)?
3. What has your reading experience been like so far in your academic career? Have instructors assign you books you have enjoyed? Have you read mostly novels, short stories, comics, plays? If you could tell me something about how you want readings to go in the classroom, what would you suggest?
4. What has your writing experience been like so far in your academic career? What about writing do you like? What do you dislike or find difficult? What is one thing you want to learn about writing in this class
5. What is your favorite thing said in the Ted Talk “Reading as a Daring Act?” Why?

Additional Requirements

1. Your responses should be in full sentences and at least 300-400 words in length (for all of them, not individually).
2. You need to respond to at least 2 of your classmates. Your responses should be more than “I agree/I like what your are saying.” Your responses should be at least 100-150 words in length.

Based on this assessment, what do you think you want to get out of this class and what areas are you most interesting in improving or learning more about this session?

For the second week of the discussion, take a look at some videos from Jeffrey Pfeffer of Stanford University. He is considered one of the leading experts in the world on power and influence. Find a video from Dr. Pfeffer on power or influence that you find useful and share the link with your classmates. Do you think he practices what he preaches? In other words, does he exhibit expert power?

The two texts will be

– TS Eliot: “The Hollow Men”

– Ernest Hemingway: “The Fight on the Hilltop,”

– 750-950 word essay

– 5-paragraph essay structure ( introduction with thesis, three or more body paragraphs, and a conclusion).

– The word count does not include the Works Cited page or formatting.

• Compare and contrast how the “Modern” man is represented in texts by two different authors from weeks 3 and/or 4.
• Which author this week seems most representative of the Modern viewpoint as you understand it? Explain. Be sure to identify at least 3 reasons or points to explore in the body of your paper. You might examine 3 qualities of Modernism and discuss how those qualities appear in the poetry of ee cummings, for example.

You may not use outside sources. Only primary sources from within the course (the readings under discussion) may be used.

Your essay should be formatted in MLA style, including double spacing throughout. All sources should be properly cited both in the text and on a works cited page. As with most academic writing, this essay should be written in third person. Avoid both first person (I, we, our, etc.) and second person (you, your).
