In this literary response, you will create a response to what you have learned about Plot as a literary device. 

This assignment focuses on your ability to: learn how to identify the plot devices of a piece of literature; craft your own creative piece with similar plot devices.

Scenario

Sprockets Corporation designs high-end, specialty machine parts for a variety of industries. You have been hired by Sprockets to assist them with their data analysis needs. Sprockets Management is interested in making further investments to support a complete data analytics production environment. You have been asked to produce a set of recommendations for this environment and consider all related technologies that exist.

Instructions 

John Sprocket, CEO has asked for your recommendations for investing in a comprehensive data analytics production environment for Sprockets Corporation. In a written proposal, address the following topics and justify your recommendations for products appropriate for Sprockets Corporation.

1. Provide a high-level description of what type of investments should be made in order to support a complete data analytics application environment.

2. Include technologies that should be considered in order to provide the appropriate state-of-the-art data analytics pipeline.

3. Include the following topic areas, stating advantages and disadvantages of the packages described and your recommendation. Note: you may have overlap in your packages as they can support more than one need.

• Programming Languages (e.g. R, Python)

Imagine someone near and dear to you, such as a significant other, best friend, or child, is looking for some career advice. Lets call this person John. John is looking for a good field to start a career. John heard that computers are the future and there is a shortage of people in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math). John is thinking of going to college to get a degree in Network administration because it sounded interesting.

John doesn’t know if this is a good decision or not. This is because he also read articles that says there are too many STEM graduates for the available jobs. John also read that companies have outsourced a lot of IT jobs overseas or have used something called an H-1B Visas to hire foreigners that work for next to nothing.

John watched a video on youtube called Did you know? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrJjfDUzD7M that says today’s learners will have 10 to 14 jobs by age 38. Having so many different jobs over a life time sounds intimidating to John. John wonders if it is better to learn theory or practical skills to prepare himself for the job market.

John is also confused about what he has to get hired. There are many places that offer education, training, and/or certification. He doesn’t know the difference between all the options but he understands that some routes are out of his price range. He is worried that his first job might not pay enough to cover the education/training/certification process. John is also confused about transferability of college credit.

I want you to conduct some research that can answer John’s concerns. You should submit a paper 3 to 5 pages in length that covers the following at a minimum:

• What are the job outlook for network administrators at the local, state, and national level?
• Are there any IT related fields that have better job outlooks?
• How much money can a network administrator hope to make starting out? What about mid-career and late career?
• Is this a job that is vulnerable to outsourcing?
• Explain what H-1B visas are and how they impact IT jobs.
• What certifications are there for network administration?
• Who offers these certifications and what’s different about them (i.e. vendor specific vs vendor neutral)?
• What combination of college degree/certificate, work experience, or industry certificate are needed to get an entry level job in network administration?
• What should John do to be competitive in the age we live in? Should he focus on job training, theory, or a combination? Will he need to continue his education once he gets his first job?
• Explain the differences between for profit colleges and non-profit colleges. Also explain the differences between regionally and nationally accredited colleges and how it affects transferability of college credit.
• Be sure to properly cite sources using MLA, APA, or Chicago style formatting.

In this assignment, you will design the tables to hold data in the CSVs, import the CSVs into a SQL database, and answer questions about the data. In other words, you will perform:

1. Data Engineering
2. Data Analysis

Note: You may hear the term “Data Modeling” in place of “Data Engineering,” but they are the same terms. Data Engineering is the more modern wording instead of Data Modeling.

Data Modeling

Inspect the CSVs and sketch out an ERD of the tables. Feel free to use a tool like http://www.quickdatabasediagrams.com.

Data Engineering

• Use the information you have to create a table schema for each of the six CSV files. Remember to specify data types, primary keys, foreign keys, and other constraints.
  
  • For the primary keys check to see if the column is unique, otherwise create a composite key. Which takes to primary keys in order to uniquely identify a row.
  • Be sure to create tables in the correct order to handle foreign keys.
• Import each CSV file into the corresponding SQL table. Note be sure to import the data in the same order that the tables were created and account for the headers when importing to avoid errors.

Data Analysis

Once you have a complete database, do the following:

1. List the following details of each employee: employee number, last name, first name, sex, and salary.
2. List first name, last name, and hire date for employees who were hired in 1986.
3. List the manager of each department with the following information: department number, department name, the manager’s employee number, last name, first name.
4. List the department of each employee with the following information: employee number, last name, first name, and department name.
5. List first name, last name, and sex for employees whose first name is “Hercules” and last names begin with “B.”
6. List all employees in the Sales department, including their employee number, last name, first name, and department name.
7. List all employees in the Sales and Development departments, including their employee number, last name, first name, and department name.
8. In descending order, list the frequency count of employee last names, i.e., how many employees share each last name.

Bonus (Optional)

As you examine the data, you are overcome with a creeping suspicion that the dataset is fake. You surmise that your boss handed you spurious data in order to test the data engineering skills of a new employee. To confirm your hunch, you decide to take the following steps to generate a visualization of the data, with which you will confront your boss:

1. Import the SQL database into Pandas. (Yes, you could read the CSVs directly in Pandas, but you are, after all, trying to prove your technical mettle.) This step may require some research. Feel free to use the code below to get started. Be sure to make any necessary modifications for your username, password, host, port, and database name:

Epilogue

Evidence in hand, you march into your boss’s office and present the visualization. With a sly grin, your boss thanks you for your work. On your way out of the office, you hear the words, “Search your ID number.” You look down at your badge to see that your employee ID number is 499942.

• Create an image file of your ERD.
• Create a .sql file of your table schemata.
• Create a .sql file of your queries.
• (Optional) Create a Jupyter Notebook of the bonus analysis.
